Pavements for playgrounds

Playing outdoors regularly is essential for the healthy development of children. At night, they sleep deeper and their behaviour will also improve, since while playing outdoors they let off steam shouting and running about, jumping, hanging on a jungle gym, riding their bikes: all this to release steam… Meanwhile, their muscles and bones go stronger, their lungs develop, their condition is improving.

According to the regulations currently in force, in the case of a height above 1 m it is mandatory to use shock-absorbing pavement. Below the height of 1 m, grassy areas are also accepted, so playground objects with a lower build, such as seesaws, do no necessitate the installation of special flooring unless they have concrete pavement. Despite the fact that these guidelines apply to public areas, it is worth considering them when designing a home playground, since the main purpose of standards is to reduce the risk of injuries which may occur during the game.
